ABOUT US

We are a Swiss group of friends of Ladakh which sees increasingly widen her circle, to sustain the Munsel School

These are people who are committed, even from abroad, to help disabled children and young people in various ways of Ladakh with a proper school structure, to create jobs and support even the most isolated people in the villages of this Himalayan region of Northern India, where our Association is called "Munsel Society".

The Committee to Leh in Ladakh (President and members) is formed by locals.

Our values

  • respect for the disabled person, his physical, his mental and his psychic.

  • collaboration with parents, families and with the staff of local infrastructure operating in the field of health care, education and vocational training

The name Munsel was chosen on the recommendation of a monk and means "out of darkness, out of ignorance"

Mara Casella, who grew up in Bellinzona, is a special-school teacher with a vast experience in teaching and educating handicapped people.
In the summer of 2005 she moved to Ladakh after being long active in French-speaking Switzerland as a responsible adult at the Institute sector pedagogical Les Buissonnets of Fribourg, and teaching support in Romont, always in the canton of Fribourg, where she worked for the integration of pupils with Sen in elementary and middle school. In Leh, in close cooperation with Marianne Aerni, a friend of Geneva, initiated a humanitarian project to remove social exclusion children with physical and mental problems. Together they created from nothing "Munsel", a small specialized school, destined to be transformed also into training center for local staff and point of reference for families.

Kunzang followed Mara step by step in the creation of the school, gaining his experience
and focusing directly on the ground after having worked as an educator in a structure of Leh, sponsored by the Lions Club.

Highly motivated from the start, he learned quickly and rapidly focused needs of individual students, becoming the point person for all employees.

After the return of Mara in Switzerland, took over the role of pedagogical and organisational Manager.

Much appreciated by both parents, by both the staff guarantees the quality of services
and develops projects, enhancing the contribution of volunteers from abroad.
